CARBON/KDF®

Used in combination with an Acid Washed Coconut Shell Activated Carbon, KDF can significantly extend the life of filter cartridges. KDF is an oxidation-reduction (redox) media that removes chlorine, hydrogen sulfide and many other contaminants. KDF is available in several varieties for specific applications.

KDF-55 removes chlorine and reduces heavy metals. KDF-85 removes hydrogen sulfide and reduces iron. Both KDF redox medias are bacteriostatic and control the growth of micro-organisms in filters. KDF allows Activated Carbon to do a better job at removing taste and odor.

NITRATE REDUCTION

Nitrate are reduced by using SIR-100-HP, a strong base anion exchange resin. It is especially useful in nitrate removal applications due to its ability to remove nitrates preferentially in the presence of sulfates and other divalentions.

FLOURIDE REDUCTION

Fluoride is removed by RESINTECH SIR-900 by a chemical reaction with the media. The process is flow and pH sensitive. The best results are obtained when the flow is limited to about l GPM/cu.ft. and the pH is held at 5.5. Higher flows and higher or lower pH causes a significant loss of capacity. The best capacity obtainable is approximately 0.2 lbs. per cu.ft. Leakage of fluoride is generally less than 0.1 mg./L to breakthrough.
